I'm surprised that you've gotten rejections from ClariTrans. They're actually one of my go-to requesters, although I've stopped doing many of their 35 second standard paying hits because it takes me so long, about 6-8 minutes (or more) to do them. (I'll still do the "great paying" and "temporarily increased pay rate" HITs that are at that length.) I prefer to nibble off the 10, 15 and 20 second HITs because it feels like I can do them faster, although I probably really can't. (Even doing 10 seconds of transcription still takes me about 2-3 minutes.) My method is to play 5-10 seconds of speech, stop the recording and transcribe it as best I can, then listen to the next 5-10 seconds of speech. When I'm done I go back and listen to the whole clip, stopping to correct errors or the missed "ah", "um", or "you know". I do this again and again until I can get through a whole transcription without seeing a mistake, so by the time I'm done I've listened to the whole clip possibly 3, 5, or more times. I also Google words and names I'm not sure of, which can be frustrating and absolutely increases my time to transcribe, although I did learn what a Hadamard transform was from this technique. How long does it take you to transcribe say, a 2-minute clip? It takes me 25-30 minutes. (As an aside, I did an 11 minute transcription a few days back and it took me over 3 hours before I was satisfied with the thing and turned it in.) My general rule of thumb is that it will take me between 15-20 times the length of a clip to fully transcribe it.
Update: Never received a reply since the last one I posted. Appears this requester doesn't give a shit if we get a rejection, they admit the mistake, and basically say screw off on getting it reversed.... lazy POS requester. CLARITRANS IS A POS REQUESTER STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU ENJOY UNDUE REJECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!
I'm with you on that 2much. I am a careful worker, I accurately type at 90wpm+, I have many years verbatim transcription and I take pride in my work. I Google anything I am not sure of, I make sure my spellings are US (not my native UK) and I submit only after checking audio at least once or more. I think getting no explanation of the rejection is the worst. At the least the others I work for show you what was corrected (even if it's sometimes a bad correction grrr).
Yeah. My main problem is the requester admitted my three rejections were in error then told me he couldn't reverse them because it was impossible.......... then said he would look into it.... never heard from him again after that.
It worked out to about a 2% rejection rate for me but that is too high to keep doing them. Got to maintain my 99.5% approval rate.
This is surmise, guesswork on my part. --I took the Claritrans test to edit work and received a 91. I took it again and got an 81. *I took it a third time, giving EXACTLY the answers I gave when I got a 91 and received a sixty something. So,there is a glitch there someplace----or they grade down for repeats as a deliberate policy. --I submitted six hits, had 4 approved and two rejected. The response was,"Transcript not accurate; be sure to transcribe every spoken word." Not to pick too deeply, but he/she misused a semicolon. --As of twenty minutes ago, there were no Claritrans hits on M Turk,so it is possible that they know they need to recalibrate something and they are doing do. ----------- My guess is this is a series of honest mistakes and they are addressing the problem; time will tell.
The whole problem with them is they are not taking up issues with graders who unfairly grade. They don't reverse rejections even when they admit it should not have been rejected.. stay away from them!
I've gotten two 4s. The second one was only one person. I think I should have broken up the sentence, but I didn't. He spoke fast, but relatively clearly. I think it was part of a math class lecture.
Hello, guys. I am a claritrans fan and have been working for claritrans for over 2 months now. After reading all the comments, I feel like clarifying a few things. I will first start with the grading system of claritrans. I emailed the requester a few days ago about the grading when no number is given. He replied as "no score is also a 4." So, here goes the grading, 2: means a reject. 3: could have been better, but can be approved. 4: the best possible transcription that is possible for the audio. About the issue that you raised(of unfair rejections), when the requester says each word is to be transcribed, then he means it, literally. When I initially started transcribing for claritrans, half of my HITs were rejected. I looked at it closely and found that I miss a few words like uh, um, ah, etc. I started giving more time to the transcripts and the result is I seldom receive a 3 grade these days. I mostly receive a 4 or no grade(No grade also means that absolutely no editing is required). So, in short, try to transcribe each and every word. What I do is, after doing the whole transcript I listen 2 or more times again and find that I have missed a few words or have not transcribed them correctly. The third point is that in almost every transcript I have a word which is iii(unable to decipher the word). Because there are some scientific terms cannot be heard even after a google search. I wish to say that just as classify this is for you 2much, claritrans works for me. So, my advice is you work for claritrans, give atleast 6 minutes for a transcript of 35 seconds or less and you will certainly receive a grade of 4. Edit : One more thing. I have never received unfair rejections from claritrans after the first learning curve.
Although I usually only do the short 5, 10, 15 sec transcriptions, I have always had a positive experience with Claritrans.
Just did one. It was 15 seconds but took me about 10 minutes to be ready for submission. I think I got it as well as it could be. 10 minutes for 9 cents probably isn't the ideal pay, but these may give me confidence to do some transcriptions that pay better.
Somehow I submitted without even completing the entire hit. There were several speakers and I only had one line down. I hadn't even listened to the entire audio. I didn't hit the submit button, it was something I did on my keyboard. I don't know what. I know it will be rejected for cause, I just don't want to do it again.
So far I've done 25 for them. I've got twenty-one 4s, two 3s, one 2(the one mentioned above that I expected), and one still pending.
