i assume by dual-turk you mean turking from two accounts on two computers? i don't know how people get multiple accounts since ssn is required, but no, i'm not dual turking. i'm mainly just using my laptop to alert me about hits, though if 1/3 of the keys on the keyboard weren't broken i would probably do some turking from bed on it.
May be a dumb question but which 3 months are the slowest? I started turking again 3 weeks ago and am making ~350 a week on mturk. It would be awesome knowing there's potential to make more from it.
It usually takes me around a couple of minutes, but I'm not very fast at transcribing audio yet. At that rate the pay isn't very good, but it beats doing Oscar Smith hits if there's nothing else to do.
how many times are they going to put this one up?? Add on to my original comment, I think it also matters what your background is. I have a very heavy science-based background so the biology and math classes are easier for me and go a lot faster. The computer science courses that they have, as well as the town-meeting type HITs, take me longer to do because I don't intuitively know all the words as well.
No, I meant just randomly doing HITs from the same account on both of them. Judging by the fact that you said there's broken keys though, that clears up any confusion I had. What kind of laptop is it? I have a couple keyboards laying around from laptops that didn't make it.
it's a presario cq42... i just need to get a small cheap usb keyboard for it, but i'm holding off because that will just encourage me to be lazy and turk from bed, and having done that for a month and a half before i built my pc i know it's the least productive way for me to work...

Yes, the lectures are easier for me too. The terminology usually isn't a problem, my main problem is that I stop and rewind too frequently. I think I just need more practice at it. Also, I'm pretty paranoid about getting rejected for missing a word or something, so I usually triple-check my transcription, which of course slows me down further.
close but yeah, not american layout, and some keys are different sizes... also i'm not sure if it's a problem with the keyboard or something else, i've cleaned the whole thing multiple times, there's nothing wrong with the mechanisms, but certain vertical rows of keys won't work, and others take a lot of pressure to register. i just get so stressed out with transcriptions. trying to keep up with speakers, and trying not to develop deep hatreds for people who mumble or punctuate every other word with 'like' or 'sort of' or 'kind of' or whatever...
I can't seem to get to anything before it's gone today. I think I'm just going to give up for now. Ugh
For the techies here, since we're talking about computers... Any brands I should keep in my head as I look for a new PC laptop? I'm thinking about getting a convertible tablet/laptop, but may just get a standard laptop. I have a Dell but don't want to get stuck in the "I'm getting a Dell because it's all I've ever had" mode. Anyways, no need to go in severe depth, just wondered if anybody had any names I should keep my eyes out for when I'm doing my research.
I love my Asus. And my wife's Gateway isn't too bad. But I wouldn't wish Windows 8 on anyone, so find something with 7. There's my .02
I just bought the ChormeBook and love it. It is fast and cheap. You have to get out of the windows mindset and the bad thing about the ChromeBook is it is a $200 paperweight without an internet connection.
