    I did one once... ONCE

It was a 16 minutes transcription, payed with 45 cents, it took me well over 2 and a half hours to finish accurately because it had so many medical terms I had to google... I'm not getting myself into that again..

If you get bored while doing a job, just stop doing it and don't try it anymore. That is the only solution. ^__^

45 cents for 16 minutes of audio?? Are you kidding me? It is not worth doing at all. Was the requester Ian1223 ? I think he is the only one who pays very less for transcription.
I did a transcription hit before yesterday. It was 12 minutes of audio and it paid me 6$. It was a very good hit. And he approved the hit in less than 1 hour. The requester was Tyler Chandler.
In my point of view, the maximum you should do for 45cents is a 2 minutes audio.

It was that student kid, probably Ian, not sure, I felt sorry for him so decided to do my first transcription, to test out how it goes, wasn't a pleasant experience :p

I can't help it if you get bored while working. Only you can cure that.

Maybe you can do the hit of Redwood. Transcribe a short audio clip of ~10seconds, 0.03$ only... Search for Redwood. But beware of rejections.

Yeah, I did stumble upon Redwood, but although i see a few hundred of hits available, when I go on the HIT page I get "No jobs could be found for this HIT!"

Yeah, I have seen this error page quite often. Once I contacted them regarding this error, they said that they are facing problem with the hit design or something, and they are trying to solve it. But never solved it yet. I have done a lot of this hits without a single rejection though.

To be honest the majority of the transcriptions definitely aren't worth it. Even with a very high typing speed their still incredibly hard to do for not enough payoff. It would really help if they had a slow down audio play speed or something of that nature but it's a lot of work in its current state.

Even the lower paying ads with a few of them I can at least average about 9 dollars an hour but transcriptions may end up being a dollar for 30 minutes+ of work. Along with this they also tend to keep you from getting a high approval count quickly to get to the 1000+ submissions.

I'm doing Redwood now while teaching myself transcription and getting faster. I've never had any rejections from them so far.

On the other hand, I've also done the Redwood 'Review for accuracy' HITs and sometimes it's outrageous what people submit. I've seen people submit things like

    blah blah blah
    just a bunch of words
    people talking
    dfjasd fdsjf;lsd fjdskfljds fjdsaflj

As well as outrageous misspellings. I'm not talking about missing one or two words, which in and of itself really isn't even OK when you consider how brief these clips are. I'm talking along the lines of

"da boi sd he wuz not going dere i doan no whi"

    I'm seriously not kidding.

I think Redwood pays too low to use it for anything but getting faster at typing and learning transcription, but I think they're a good starting point. I like the way the clips loop, it really makes it easier.

I just passed the SpeechInk test and submitted two HITs. One was approved with a 97% score and the other one is still pending. Once I get better, I think I'll move on to CastingWords, because that's where it seems to be a little better paying.

Personally, I do almost all my transcriptions for Casting Words. Anytime I start to try a transcription put out by someone else it almost always turns out to either be extremely low paid (yeah, 16 minutes for .45 certainly sucks), or otherwise a huge pain in the ass for some reason.

I'd say if you can't stand doing long transcriptions, try the short ones by ClairTrans. They don't make a ton of money, but they're short and they really do pay. (Just note that the transcription guidelines are different for CT and CW!)

I started off doing the ClairTrans ones and then started trying the Casting Words ones. It used to feel like a 5 minute transcription would take me absolutely forever. Now it feels like nothing. I guess I just got used to it, and of course getting a pedal and typing faster with experience helps.

If you get used to working for CW and get a good worker rating, you'll end up working for about 30 or 40 cents per audio minute. If you get the coveted 99 rating, you get access to the really good ones that pay $1 per audio minute.

And, I say this all the time, but don't take anything that you don't think you can do! There's a lot of transcription hits out there and some of them just aren't hearable by human beings. Be ruthless and only take the stuff you can really hear. High grade, high grade, high grade.

And just in case you haven't found it somewhere else, here's the link for CW's "hit list" which is a much easier way to cruise the list and find work: http://turkers.castingwords.com/hit/list

Wow, thanks Zinni! I just did a quick search for ClairTrans and they don't have any HITs listed right now, but I've added them to my watch list.

I think I've been leaving CastingWords for last because their style guide intimidates me. I've read it over a few times and it just seems like I need more experience before I try those. I'm probably being too cautious, but it's just my nature.

I just reviewed the ones I have been calculating time/money benefits for and it does appear they all require location U.S. If I run across one that has a constant flow of HITS and a can make you a bit more I will let you know just to help out at least if it's not U.S only.

On ones that allow you to download the audio file though it might be worth trying to find a program that allows you to slow down the speed it plays by 20%+ or more so it would be easier to translate in just one time of going over what is said in the audio.

I would like to pull in like 50$ in a day at least currently, but since I am new the 100 HIT count is stopping me.

I did only like 2-3 of those and one of them literally translated the first two words then wrote "A bunch of stuff in English was said".

LOL! I know, right? And I'd bet money that person would be one of the first to head over to TO and leave an all 1's review saying "Scammer! Rejected all my HITs"

Zinni thanks again for the lead on ClariTrans. They have some posted now so I did three of the very short 15 second ones, and I'll do more once I see what kind of feedback I get on these. Their style guide is a lot less intimidating to me than CastingWords so I think I'll enjoy using ClariTrans as a stepping stone. I still need to get a lot faster in my typing before I "hit the big time" :)
