I do very limited work on microworkers because I do have some moral problems with most of the work posted there. I don't mind clicking on ads and stuff, so I get paid for that, but voting for people or posting positive blogs seems douchy to me.

sometimes it is, other times it's just so a new site can gain traction with ranking/seo -- it's a futile attempt because it won't really work, but i believe that's their intent

Ahaha yeah that was where I drew the line. I tried it but the only thing that IE is good for is downloading FireFox when you get a new PC. I tried a couple of the tasks but realized I was losing money and went back to Turking.

Fiverr is hilarious. Most of the "serious" work is oversaturated with people offering to work for basically free there so yeah, unless you have a unique niche and crazy marketing skillz it's hard to get a bite there. I certainly got nothing. They have another site too, I can't for the life of me think of it right now. It's similar but more professional IIRC, but I never really got into it.

I did court record research for awhile. Great money until I got new internet service that refuses to get along with PDF files. After I quit that I heard that they have areas that don't use PDF files and I should have requested those, I've been thinking about going back to that now that the kids are going back to school. I think that's the only work at home I've done that I could very easily put on a future job application. I should stick with it just for that reason -- I don't want to have to explain mTurk at every interview I go on.

I am so very glad that Google is pro-active about spam content because there is nothing more frustrating than searching a subject (which, as we all know, we need to do a fair bit when we're writing content) and getting page after page of SERPs from spam-filled keyword-stuffed flim-flam. I also detest beyond measure being asked to keyword stuff in such a way that it makes absolutely no sense to a human reader. I don't write for bots!

I am trying to get a blog set up to showcase my writing ability but I have been trying to do this for years and I have lots of problems with it. The truth is I have had many, MANY such sites but I have mental health issues... I wake in the night in a cold sweat of paranoia and delete my sites! Wake in the morning and kick myself when I realise what I have done! My friends get very cross with me!

I also wrote 18k words for national novel writing month last year and gave up because I started to hate what I was writing. Funny thing is, I read some of it this morning and thought it was absolutely brilliant but I read it again next week I might find it awful.

People seem to make good money out of paid blog posts (reviewing products, services or sites on your own blog) and this is the market I am hoping to try if and when I can force myself not to sleep-delete my work! (I have had new meds since earlier this year which I hope will help with this).

Of course, you know I am going to delete this post when I realise how much personal shit I have given away here :)

    Please don't hate me.

random tip in case all that other goes away -
Start a blog and write it as you're someone else. not.even.joking. buy the dot com, set up hosting, get whois protection for a year.
    set up a pen name.
don't let others in on your site until you have (at least) 75 posts and/or pages. keeping it hidden for that long won't be hard because google will index you but you'll get no rank (linkbacks are key for that).
no harm, no foul. it's live, but invisible. might help.

I signed up for clickworkers - but no jobs avail and I passed all the preassments with 95% or higher.
Odesk and elance has great work, but too many willing to work for less than $1 an hour.

I do mystery shopping, but thats only good if you can wait 4-6 weeks to see a check back to cover what you spent. But great to get a free or cheaper meal. Pizza ones can be a pain.

The merchadisng jobs can be good - but can't have a full time day-job to do that. But can pay less than min wage if you are not fast at it. But if you live in a rural area, sometimes you will get a nice bonus for driving 15-30 miles out of your way.

I may toss work up on microworkers then to get my blog back up to a lot of visitors - but running a contest helps there too. :)

That's a great idea actually Whimsy - the whole "other persona" thing.

I have a reseller hosting account so I am constantly starting sites.

My best income, tiny though it is, comes from a Flash games site I created. I should do more work on that but my netbook doesn't like Flash much. I get about 6 cents a month from that LOL. Rich I tells ya!

I use WordPress and you can choose a setting which prevents search bots from accessing your site until you are ready to go public, so I use that where required.

I've always wondered how much content to create before publicising it so thanks for that tip.

Maybe, if you would be interested, I could PM you some of my stuff so you can give me an honest opinion (harsh if necessary, I can take it). I think genuine criticism is so valuable.

Me too. Most microworkers work is at a weird moral place between legit and "helping scammers". Totally weirds me out.

One Micro job I saw asked for 5 star reviews on an Android app.

I pretty much RELY on reviews to help me decide whether to try an app or not.

So I posted a review warning potential customers that the developer was paying people to post positive reviews and not to take them at face value.

K so it's really not 'like' mturk, and it's cheesy I know but have you done swagbucks?

I'm not talking about the surveys and offers and stuff, I use them only for the search. I have them as my default search engine ( I just search google when I need REAL answers haha) and I make anywhere from $10-$50 a month (in amazon gift cards sadly) from just that.

It's really not a lot... But it involves no work on my part. In fact, I have all my links in my bookmark bar (mturk, forums, other sites) that are the search page on their site. It involves one extra click, but about hal the time I earn about 10 "swagbucks" which is 10c.

www.swagbucks.com <-- yes that's my referral link, and if it's not allowed, i'll take it down.

Yeah.. I told you it's a cheesy site, BUT free gift cards...

Here are my gift card payments i've received off searching from the site. Not much for the 3-4 months I was on it, but like I said, it was one extra click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEFmqqMYcRM

Then you posted a five star rating and got paid? :p

I too rely on ratings for a download, however almost every app has a free version, so if I see a good review i'll try it. Easy enough to delete it after, and i've found good apps that have mostly bad reviews, then their is that ONE person that needs the app for the reason you do that gave it OVER 9000!!! stars, and rated it higher than God.

I tried clickworker and never found any work on there. On the subject of Textbroker. I started there this week- Thank you very much for the tip you posted Athena! I know we don't always agree with each other on this forum but I honestly thank you for mentioning Textbroker on here. I received a 4 star rating on my initial submission and I've done 4 articles so far. Three of them much better paying than most writing HITS on Mturk and one that pays about the same but I took it because the subject was really interesting for me and it was quick since I didn't have to do much research. I will continue with Mturk also because I enjoy the surveys and some of the writing HITS are good for me. I'm sure the work does the ebb and flow thing on Textbroker just like Mturk so hopefully with both of them my income will come up substantially. Thanks again Athena!
Interneteditor- from what I read Textbroker only accepts US writers. I had to send proof (my drivers license) of my US status. That may be why your account was closed? I've already seen how the jobs come and go on the site. Today there were more jobs for 3 star ratings than there were yesterday when I checked.

    Brilliant.

I do SBTV in the background occasionally, but I end up getting into HITs and forgetting to switch screens. If I play it on my phone I'll see when the clip ends.

You just made me $1 richer! THANKS!
Lulz, sbtv is good if you can reach that 75 views a day cap, but I gave up after the first week of it.

P.S. Did you ever get any referrals? I got like 10, but only ONE guy ever did searching and he made me $7. I had planned to get back into it, but I always forget. (even though I see SB everytime I click my bookmarks)

    EDIT: Wait, what? $50 a day>?
Lucy! you got som' splainin' to do!

50 Swag Bucks per day. I think it's a max of 50-75 Swag Bucks with mobile TV, and like 150 (?) for SBTV online.

SBTV gets you $50 a day?? I need to start doing that if they have an iPhone app.

Bing Rewards is good to get a few points and get a $5 amazon card here and there.

Oh lol. I believe you can only get 75 (unless it's changed) with online SBTV. (25 times the 3 SB)

Still good. *downloads app* - *cries that he loses android phone in two days*
