We’re new to mTurk and recently submitted our first pre-task HIT test for our clients. We submitted the pre-task to test and optimize the quality of results and approval process. Some of you may have worked on it, thanks for that. If you have an opinion on how to improve it we’d love to hear from you. Soon we’ll upload the first batch of our optimized HIT’s. The first task involves research to find professional email addresses through web search. To maximize approvals and ensure the highest quality results, we’ve listed the type of email we are looking for: - We will only approve individuals' professional email addresses This means we cannot(!) approve: - private email addresses like @gmail.com, @hotmail.com etc. - email addresses that don't correlate to the provided name at all - email addresses of people with similar, but actually different names For some of you, this means it won’t be possible to submit a “good” result. We’ve included an additional comments field, for genuine circumstances where you can’t comply with these rules. One simple example for that are people changing their names after marriage. Please make full use of the comments field to avoid false rejections, as each HIT including a comment which will have an additional manual confirmation. Look forward to working with you all. I am so fed up with this kind of HIT. Why would anyone want to work on this? I have seen this before too many times and I don't know why I even bothered. Its the same old BS. The requester is asking to look for something that may or may not exist, but won't pay for the effort put in by the worker. On top of that, there is the risk that I may violate one of the arcane rules of the requester and get a rejection. I tried two of them. The first person doesn't even exist on the internet and the second person worked for an entirely different instituition in an unrelated role. Effort expended ~5 minutes. Amount earned = $0.00.
I can't believe you stuck with it that long. For 7 cents, when that timer hits 30 seconds I'm returning it and won't do anymore. Also, with the previous threads and TO on CrowdServer, I was thanking my lucky stars I missed the first batch. I don't think these are for me
That is what I always tell myself starting out and some days I stick to it. But on other days like today, I'm not so diligent. Plus when I get a hint that one more try will succeed I go for it. One more becomes one more and then its several minutes later.

I have a problem with the name being part of the professional email. I can give you countless examples at one university (Major Technical University that is well known) that some have (Domain is replaced to protect the innocent) JohnSmith@edu.edu Jsmith@edu.edu SmithJ@edu.edu Jsmi42@edu.edu akjk134@edu.edu or even Iteachsclass201@edu.edu But these are the ones you would use to contact, students would contact, and are listed in the university's email/contact directory.
Just means they don't have any HITs right now. If you search for them on this forum you could probably find some links to their HITs, although if that doesn't do any good if they don't have any posted.
Scott, in this circumstance we only ask that you provide the URL where you located the email. We review each HIT an additional time if there is a comment. And Petegp, sorry you couldn't find the project. The work was completed very quickly and wouldn't have appeared in your search results. DO NOT do these... I did 3 test hits and got rejections and I spent AMPLE time to make sure they were the right emails ALL have the name in the email and were ONLY from professional addresses. Broken system or this requester rejects purposefully. You all know I don't BS so do NOT do these hits!!! EDIT 26k+ approved hits with a 99.5% approval rate mind you. The problem is NOT on my end. This requester needs to be boycotted here. I can't stand unfair requesters or ones that can not get their shit together.
Can't say I'm surprised the way he dodges any negativity or criticism toward him and only acknowledges people willing to do his shitty work. Good luck, CrowdServer!
By the way... I used the word 'unfair' when I really wanted to use many other not so nice ones =) Anyhow definitely avoid this one.
