    Hello! Welcome to the forum!

Yes, a "batch" of HITs is where there's a big group, all with the same name from the same requester. Tasks like transcriptions, categorizing pictures, or searching for data on the 'net are typical types of batches.

Surveys are generally one-offs, and many survey requesters don't want any specific worker taking the same survey more than once.

I don't know of any general guide off the top of my head. But don't be afraid to ask questions; we were all new once. And don't be afraid of asking them in the forum's daily HITs thread (here's the one for Saturday 1 November 2014); that's where the majority of the community hangs out. We make a new one at midnight Pacific Time (which is midnight where Amazon is located and our Mturk stats reset).

i think this thread answers many questions.
a batch is just a high amount of HITs. if a requester has 41 of them for the take it is technically a batch, but usually we use this term for HITs with 300+ available.
The theory of hoarding is really, really controversial. some say make your queue full and share later and others say sharing is caring.

Not new, but a habit a question.

Being a registered user or TURKER, Can my husband also do a survey under my account? Sorry for the wording but I'm tired. I do some surveys and make some extra money but I come across some that are gender specific that my husband would qualify for (in some cases), is it appropriate for him to take that survey under my account? I know there is a rule that there can only be one account per household (I think) and do not want to jeopardize my part-time income per se for a lousy couple dollars here and there. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Another question. I have a couple of the scripts installed that are essential, but I am missing one and cannot find a hyperlink that's functional for the "blocked requesters". I do surveys and that stupid CVRS or whatever seems to be all over the place and I want to block them. Can anybody help me out?

    Thank you very much, Dee

You can always ask Amazon directly: https://www.mturk.com/mturk/contactus

Think about what you are suggesting. What is to stop someone from inventing some persona out of thin air to complete surveys that they are not qualified for?

there is no rule like one account per household, just one account per banking account. if you let your husband (or any person) do a survey on your account you would violate AMT ToS for only one worker per account, but you could interview your husband ;)
in my opinion it is okay to do those things if he matches the ctriteria

It makes sense but I wouldn't risk it. If you get banned/dropped it could be a nightmare to get it all straightened out, and really how many surveys are gender specific?

Does an expired hit affect you negatively?

    Thank you!

Not sure if this has changed, but requesters used to be able to assign a HIT abandonment rate percentage to qualification requirements. This was only done by requesters who basically didn't know what they were doing.

In other words, no, it isn't bad if a HIT expires, except for not getting the money by completing it. As far as I know.

I heard that you have to make at least 600 dollars from one requester to file. Is this true or is it 600 dollars on Mturk total? I've made over 600 dollars through Mturk but not sure if I have with one requester. This is in regards to my tax question. I forgot to reply with quote.

If you are in the good old US of A and you make $600+ in the tax year (Jan. 1st- Dec. 31st) in TOTAL for mturk, not just one requester..but for ALL you do... you will get a 1099 from Amazon. It's like a W2 you get on a regular job but this is for self employed. Use the numbers off of that to file the taxes . (They have a form or if you e-file choose 1099 so you can enter in the numbers)...For instance.....So like I made 1800.00 on my other job. My 1O99 from them will say that I made 1800.00 this year and they didn't take taxes out. (YAY!). I have to pay 8.5% (Florida) on 1200.00. So roughly I'll send them a check for $102.00 ON just that job. (BOO :p)
I deduct my home office/living room and usually qualify for the Earned Income Credit. That usually covers what I owe. If I'm really good at my deductions I maybe get back enough for a pack of smokes.

Now next year I'll have 3 1099's to file, one for each job I went over $600 at. I hope this helps. (p.s. I do taxes also Dec 10th-April 25th Also 1099'd)
