I was short on money for money this summer holiday, so I couldn't go on vacation like I usually do. So I decided to give mTurk a try. So far it's been relatively profitable and and interesting. I've been Turking for a week, and I just hit the $100 mark. Out of that, $50 was paid on a day when I was lucky enough to find a $20 job, combined with a few of these "transcribe a negotiation" jobs. I've been focusing mostly on well paying transcription jobs. $100 a week is not exactly a living wage, unless maybe if you live in India, which I don't; I live in Sweden. But on the other hand, many of the conversations in these jobs have been interesting on their own merits, so I'm not regretting getting into it.
