This requester was posting HITs paying 0.11 which required very little work and took about 2-3 min to complete. He has recently reduced the pay to .04 and the HIT involves typing 5-10 words. You can work on this HIT by making a search with the words - "Identify text in an image".
I enjoyed working his hits and I thought he was quite generous but yes like many others, he has reduced. I think 0.04 is still ok though, considering the little effort involved.
Today, while I tried to work on these HITs, most of the time the page didn't load completely for quite a long time (until I finally gave up and closed the tab). Was it just me or anyone else too faced this problem? BTW, I too was very much disappointed when I saw the reduction in the HIT Reward amount. Initially, it was $0.11 for 6 words and now it's $0.04 for >6 words (haven't counted, so don't know exactly, but it's >6 words most probably). This is quite unfair IMHO. I mean, the Requester didn't just reduce the Reward amount by >60% but also increased the workload. What a Holocaust!!!
That's how they reel you in. They pay good at first and then continually reduce the rate because they know we'll reason, "...well...it wasn't that difficult so I'll still do it...." I hate that...
I avoid these HITs as they had some problem and the text would not load. I have had many HITs expire because of this problem and at times had to reload and work on them again. Sheer waste of time when you spend 10 min on a job which usually gets done in 2-3 min.
I did these when they were 11 cents but when he reduced the pay I quit. Usually if you do a good job you get raises not decreases in salary.
Quoted for truth. Hate to say it, but I started turning in work later than usual in order to try to head off the declining wage effect. If I have one day to do a HIT but could be done in just a few hours, I'll sit on the finished work until at least 18 hours have passed. People equate "getting done promptly" with "the work must be really easy", and it isn't long before the wages end up first in the toilet, then in the sewer.
I think requester's pay more initially to get people interested in their HITs. When their HITs start going fast, they start dropping the rates. Sad, but true. This requester had been posting HITs by the name of James Garvey earlier and changed his name when he resurfaced in May. (Source: Turkopticon) Questions have been raised about the purpose of his HITs as we are required to type CAPTCHAS.
Here's the purpose of the HIT as mentioned in the HIT itself: I doubt this to be untrue. Hope that's the real purpose & I'm not contributing to some foul play by working on these HITs. Also, if people will stop working on these HITs, the Requester might be forced to raise the Reward amount. As this can happen only if everyone stops working on these HITs, I highly doubt it to ever happen!!!
Godzzzzzzzzzz, people aren't willing to stop working on these HITs. Come on, the pay is too low as compared to what was paid before plus the workload is more. The workers need to stop now to work on these HITs. Heck, by the time I accept a HIT, most of the times, I get to see this wonderful message: And yeah, this happens at least every 7 out of 10 times I try to accept the HIT (unless I've already accepted one and am lucky enough to get the next one through the Auto-accept option). This clearly means that there are workers madly working on these HITs. If any of the users here is one of those workers, I'd kindly request to stop working on these HITs as they're not well-paid and such action of yours might turn out to be very beneficial (at least for someone) in the long run!!! Please co-operate and get serious on this one, act now (i.e. please be understanding and kind enough to stop working on these HITs from now on if you've been till now) before it's too late!!! Hope everyone will understand and appreciate my humble, honest and absolutely innocent request!!!!!!
