Go to the same place where you approved your HIT, and hover the mouse over the worker's ID. A little arrow will appear below it, and when you click on it you can choose Give a bonus payment.

Don't bother filling out the reason, because in all likelihood the person will never read it. Instead, use Send an e-mail message from the same little menu to thank the user. If you don't send a personal thank you, the worker may never even be sure the bonus came from you, as a lot of people don't know how to find out bonus payment details.

OK, I think I'm doing everything you say, but the only option I get is "click to block this worker". I think I'm just going to create a HIT specifically for that worker, without any actual work to do, and give her the bonus that way.

Um, are you sure you approved their work? Because I don't think Click to block should appear unless you first issued a rejection...

Click to block does appear, but so does the pay a bonus, just under it--comes up together as I remeber it so you have to be careful you don't click the wrong one.

Weird, on mine it's different. Block doesn't come up on someone I've already approved.

On an expired batch hit, I only have the option to block someone I approved.

On an individual hit, I have the options to send an email or give a bonus to those I approved.

I have no idea what you can do with rejected hits.

And I just don't understand why all the hits can't be listed the same as the individual hit, and have the status view like the group hits have.

Ah, okay. It's been a while since I've done a batch hit. I didn't realize the options were different. Thanks for clearing that up!

OK, I found it...Thanks to all of you.

Here's how I got there after I already approved the HIT, in case anyone else has this problem: Click "Manage" tab > Manage HITs individually > Download Results > Approved tab > Hover over the name > Options down arrow > Give a bonus payment

My question is: why doesn't Amazon have that process posted in their online Requester Manual?

Ask Amazon that. People need to give them feedback about things which should be improved/fixed.

They're already tired of hearing from me, so now I'm passing the mantle onto you and everyone else out there using mTurk, whether as requesters, providers or both. Let them know what you think.
