I have done a few HITs for them, but they haven't paid for any of them.

I'm starting to think that it's either some sort of social experiment (the survey at the end) and the transcribing is just some random text to have people think that the survey is just something extra.

I've done hits for him in the past and I got a big, fat bonus. He takes about two weeks or so to pay though.

I worked on a $0.10 hit and he paid me a great, great ... bonus. He took a long time to approve the hit, but no one pays such great bonuses as I got from this requestor.

I was going to start a thread about this today too. because I got three 51 cent bonuses today from them. When I received the bonuses, I found another one of their hits today and did that one. It was another 10/11 cent hit, but you can keep transcribing the foreign language(Swedish?) for up to $1.11, which will all show up as a bonus in the future, like Shego said.

When you have done, at the most, 10 paragraphs, and say finish(It seems if you do more, you get no more money), they ask ask you some things. IMO, they are trying to determine how to get more hits done, by possibly paying more money to a few, by a lottery format. Then after that, they ask how risky you are, to correlate where you put your choices in the last page.

I hate the lottery way of paying. It's not fair to the good workers, and I rather they just pay more.

I don't even understand the whole lottery extravaganza. If I wanted to do math, I'd go back to college..sheesh! I just want to get paid and move on. I don't get paid enough to think ;)

I had checked this hit and I was wondering why they would stop paying someone who is ready to work beyond 10 paragraphs. I also hate the lottery system of payment, I would prefer to be paid for whatever work I complete.

The language is new to me - I believe it is Russian, is difficult to transcribe and that too correctly. I don't understand the purpose of the survey at the end. I was kind of confused by this new hit put up by them.

Thanks Shego for the information. Someone told me previously that it was Russian, maybe the previous hit had Russian transcription. Well, I could make out one word from those three paras and it was "die" as it was present at many places.

Dutch is easy once you get used to it.

Dit boek is nieuw en dat boek is oud.
This book is new and that book is old.

Deze man is jong en die man is oud.
This man is young and that man is old.

See? If you speak English, you already know Dutch, and some Afrikaans, too. :)

Ok, so those examples were carefully chosen ;), but there really are a lot of cognates between Dutch and English.

Thanks Ergo for this tutorial. I understand English, but Dutch is beyond me. Maybe, I am not so proficient in English so I am having a hard time following Dutch. You can give me some more tutorials and maybe I might understand this language better. ;)

Really, Mithrandir? Hey, if I mangled your language, please accept my apologies. I have trouble keeping straight what's Dutch, what's Afrikaans, and what's English. :)

This hit is being posted by the name of jhdc and while everything else is the same, but at the end you have to grade the work of someone instead of the lottery system. Just thought to warn you fellows, as once this grading system starts, you never know whether your work will be accepted or rejected.

There is no such information provided in the hit initially and you will get to this grading part only after you finish the transcribing. Thought to warn you all who wish to avoid hits which get graded by others. Fortunately that para which I had to check did not have any mistake.

Do you ever get the feeling that this is some sort of psychological test? The scanned pages are pretty clean, and if they have higher resolution originals then they should be able to use a decent OCR program to convert the scan back to text.

There are many hits being posted which have one or the other kind of test. Regarding this transcribing hit, I don't understand the purpose and why they change it every time, at least the latter part. Yes, the scanned pages are great, there is no problem whatsoever in viewing or reading them.

I was puzzled when they introduced the lottery system, but what I could make out was they were trying to find how much risk a person was ready to take. But the present one surely confuses me, as the para to be checked is perfect without any mistake. At least it is in English, thank God or I would spend too much time checking for errors if it was Dutch.
