I find that some times you open a link and start working on an article before accepting the HIT because of shortage of time and by the time you go back to accept the HIT, it is not available to you. Your effort goes waste;).

I've had this happen to me too. Usually when I start working on it and then get called away by my kids or something and then go back to it. It's not a big deal to me because most of the HITS I do are small, non-time consuming ones. The only reason I do them first and then click on accept is because there were some that I couldn't get the information I needed to complete the HIT and didn't want to submit an incomplete one.

    Yup

That happened to me a couple of times, but I figure that's the chance you take if you don't formally accept a hit. I will usually check a link before I accept a hit just in case it doesn't work (many times the links are bad or I don't want to deal with what the subject matter is about).

Some of the requesters don't give you enough time to complete the hit they're asking you to do and that is annoying. Even if you're extremely fast and are totally familiar with the content, there's not enough time to go back and forth between web sites, the M-Turk page, and everywhere else you need to be to complete the hit. And God forbid your computer crashes..... ;)

It has happened to me a few times too, and it can be kind of frustrating! I do feel some of the HITS just don't allow sufficient time, and I like to try to prepare for those . But, it does backfire on me sometimes.

When I first started, the timeline thing kind of confused me but I quickly learned to "Accept HIT" as soon as I read it and decided it was something i would do. After I did work for a HIT before accepting it and ended up not making the money, i learned my lesson forever.

I have had that happen to me, but not for lack of time. I generally will be working in a flurry on a series of HITs which are fast yet with a decent reward, like writing 100 words for some such thing...

Generally what will happen is I'll finish the HIT and then realize I hadn't accepted it yet because I just wasn't paying attention...it's pretty frustrating but I've learned to accept first as soon as I decide to work on it!

Besides, returned HITs isn't a detrimental stat AFAIK

Good advice Dan. I also automatically accept hits even before I read the content (especially if I have sorted the documents by HIT creation date)

I've never experienced it, but I can understand the frustration of doing work and it going to waste. Especially if it's a writing task, because those take effort.

I did that once. It was a terrible feeling to go like -Scroll to bottom- OH NO I DIDN'T ACCEPT -Click- DAMN.

I think they should prohibit field editing unless you've hit "accept". This would solve LOADS of problems.

That's a really good idea. I can't believe that they haven't implemented it yet, actually.

I've had it happened several times. I hate when I fill out the information and then notice I forgot to click submit so I lose all my data :(
