I keep getting "dinged" on speaker tags. Even though I feel that I have looked at the style guide over and over and OVER again and again. I'm starting to feel just a little frustrated by this.

For the latest HIT that I did there was an instructor teaching a class and at one point one man (presumably a student) chimed in.

    My tags were:

    Instructor:

    Man 1:

The guide clearly says "Woman 1: is acceptable" so presumably that would mean that Man 1: is acceptable as well.

The guide also says "but Interviewer: or Host: is much better" so I would think that instructor would work in place of one of those.

Of course there was no explanation in the notes as to how I should have put the speaker tags instead.

    Any thoughts??

    Thank you for your help

    Sincerely ~ Frustrated in MD:mad:

Have you tried "Student" instead of "Man"?

I think the idea is to go with the individual's role, wherever possible.

Yeah, it's the context. I'd use "Instructor" and "Male audience member" or "Male student," with a number if more than one of them speaks.
