This thread is a placeholder! What is this? Spoiler I am Tjbot! I'm a solution devised by the genious mods to prevent there ever being a day that hit threads aren't posted! The whole point of my existence is to post a hit thread if one doesn't exist by 12:08am PST. If you see this post, assume that this one is the main post. One of the mod team will clean up existing posts and consolidate once they wake up and get online. As my name indicates, I am a bot. I don't post, nor do I respond to PM's. there are many things i like about m-turk. there are TWO things that drive me nuts. (a) getting a rejection because i had already done the hit. i do many hits every day. how can i be expected to remember every hit i've done, especially when so many of them are similar to one another? even surveys by DIFFERENT requesters are sometimes very similar to one another. and sometimes a requester "tweeks" a hit so that it may seem almost identical to a prior survey, and yet in this case a respondent IS allowed to do the original and the "tweeked" hit? (b) time allotted. over and over, it seems, i see hits that are expected to take, for example, 20 minutes, and yet the requester allocates only 20 minutes. or the hit is estimated to take five minutes and the requester allocates five minutes. they don't realize that "wiggle room" is needed? people work at different paces. sometimes we're called away unexpectedly. don't they realize that rushed responses lower the quality of those responses? very very frustrating
We all can relate. I've told few requesters that Mturk doesn't provide a database so we can keep track of HITs that we've taken. there is a HIT tracker from MturkSuite to help us check if we've done it or not. Many requesters use qualifications to screen people out after they've taken it which helps a lot. Obviously the newer ones don't. I agree, I hate rushing through surveys. Doesn't make data good for them. They can only learn from us through feedback and they do make changes after that.
My 2 cents. A. I do them all multiple times unless there is an explicit warning and I see that warning. I have 72 rejections and probably 20 of them are surveys in 6 years. Of course you only do the good ones multiple times. B. I target these exact surveys. If it's a 10 minute timer and a 2.50 cent survey then 9 times out of ten I'll be done in 8 or less. These are gravy. Rejections are meaningless in the end if you manage them and accept that you are going to get them sometimes. People worry about the 5 dollar Andy hits, but they take 5 minutes. I would still do them if he rejected 50 percent of the hits I did for him.
