How can I, when it seems all I am allowed to do are the hits that pay a few cents each?

Hey there Sonsight, sure you can! I've been around for 2 weeks and i'm at $100. There are many ways, and it depends on which route you want to go.

Most people suggest "building numbers". Alot of the good paying jobs require you to have alot of approved HITs, so they can determine that you're a good worker overall. Thats were the cent jobs come in. Fast, with (most of the time) fast approval, you can get 1000 approved jobs in your first 10 days. This opens up your chances significantly.

Or you could do it the lazy way, like me. Every day I do surveys. Surveys normally pay as low as .10, upwards (the highest i've done is 3.00). Through surveys alone I make $5 a day in 2 hours with no special qualifications or real experience. My first day I made $8. In my first week I made $5 a day on average, it's my 2nd week and now I make $10. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I can make $70 a week no hassle while I eat my dinner or when i'm finding it hard to fall asleep.

My overall advice: Get your scripts up and working (refer to the scripts part of the forum for more help), Get your numbers to atleast 100, be patient and take your first month as a learning experience. Pretty soon you and I will able to rake in the 20-30 that the others seem to make

surveys will pay more while you're figuring out the decent batches. watch the hits thread over the course of the day, you should be able to clear ten or 15 bucks just from that.
mostly a matter of practice, figuring out the hits worth doing, building up your list of requestors to monitor for.

my daily goals 20, i can usually hit that pretty easily, about half and half surveys and any batch that'll clear 6 an hour. i don't spend X hour's doing it though. through the week i'm usually working in th emorning a couple hours, and then keeping an eye on the hits thread, and jumping when my page monitor dings the rest of the day.

numbers is the first hurdle, get to 5k and you can do pretty much anything that doens't require a qual, plus you can afford to eat the occasional rejection when trying out new batches

Well, I've been "turkin" for about 7 days now, and I see myself easily getting my $10 per day of hits by noon. That was my goal, to earn an extra $280 per month for my RC airplane habit. Even got my first tip today of .50 cents, Cool! I even see myself snagging $2-3 more at night, after supper.

Two questions. Are the hits posted as Amazon gets them, or first thing in the morning?

Second question is eye strain. I own a new Dell laptop with the biggest screen they had. Any tricks to avoiding eye strain? I cannot possibly stare at the screen for hours on end! I'd go cross-eyed.

    Thanks for the advice!

as they come, best time for surveys is through the week during the day, when all the universitys are doing their thing. but things pop up anytime. different requestors have different schedules, or no schedule at all.

as for eyestrain <shrug> ctrl + upscroll on your mouse to embiggen everything on your screens the best suggestion i've got, pushing to a tv won't make it any better in that department

Congrats! Turking is one of those things that gets way easier the more you do it. You also have a lot more HITs open up as you hit bigger numbers-1k, 5k, and 10k are the big milestones that open up a lot of new work. I'm not sure if you've delved into scripts at all, and not everyone uses them, but I would HIGHLY recommend at least having Turkopticon installed. (Chrome- https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/turkopticon/dgefbojfgdddnignhmfmnencgiloojpe?hl=en Firefox- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/turkopticon/) TO basically shows you reviews and ratings of requesters before you decide whether to work for them or not. It's a great way to avoid scammy requesters and to find good ones. If you're interested in other scripts you can find a good list here- http://mturkforum.com/showthread.php?15157-How-To-Scripts-for-Newbies There are a lot of really cool ones-I'm not sure if I could turk without scripts again!

As far as eyestrain, I make sure to get away from the screen for at least a few minutes every hour, but I'm also insanely in love with F.lux (https://justgetflux.com/) I think there are other programs that are similar, but I've used it for years and it REALLY helps!

there are a number of production scripts, these are tools that modify the interface in some way to make your life easier. should be a couple stickies scattered around, and a tab on the front page of the forum, though i'm not sure those links have been updated, you might have to do some googling.

This thread is a REALLY good how-to for beginners with scripts- http://mturkforum.com/showthread.php?15157-How-To-Scripts-for-Newbies It will get you started, and if you have any questions, you can post there or in the daily HITs thread. The daily HITs thread moves pretty fast, but it's a good place to get questions answered quickly since it's by far the most active place!

I have made over $100 dollars in about 12 days. That includes a few days where I basically did nothing. Yesterday for example, I made enough for 1 stick of gum...

I plan to use this to support my reading addiction...
